So Iron Mountain Road is kind of a big deal around here. Our campground owners have trademarked the name and have tons of merchandise here at the campground and at their new Keystone store. Iron Mountain Road was built in the early 30’s and considered a modern marvel of its time. It was built specifically to showcase Mt.Rushmore. The road features 17 miles, 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, 3 pigtail bridges, 3 tunnels, 2 splits, and 4 presidents. Peter Norbeck and C.C. Gideon mapped this road out on horseback. As you drive this beautiful road you are in the heart of the black hills. It’s just gorgeous. The tunnels were made to actually frame Mt.Rushmore. It’s pretty incredible. So we finally drove the road last night after work and stopped here. So awesome !!
